Tomball emergency chiefs promote Continuity of Operations workshop

Tomball Police Chief Rob Hauck, Tomball Fire Chief Randy Parr and Northwest EMS Chief Brian Petrilla are promoting the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce’s (GTACC) Continuity of Operations Workshop. The six-hour workshop aims to help businesses continue operations during or after a natural or man-made disaster. The event was originally scheduled for April 30, but was cancelled due to a lack of participants.

The three chiefs were the guest speakers at the Chamber’s luncheon held May 6.

Hauck explained that the chiefs and all officers and personnel of each department are trained to help the city return to a normal state as quickly as possible following a disaster. The workshop would train business owners to help their business return to a normal operating state, as well.

“We love the community and the support you are able to give us (during a disaster), but you are only able to give it if your business is up and running,” Hauck said.

The Continuity of Operations workshop is sponsored by the Texas Engineering Extension Service,Tomball Economic Development Corporation, Tomball Fire Department and the Tomball Local Emergency Planning Committee. Workshop topics will include essentials of continuity planning, identifying essential functions, protecting critical assets, managing key personnel, external dependencies and succession planning.

The workshop was rescheduled at the request of Hauck, Petrilla and Parr. The new date will be June 23 at Lone Star College-Tomball in the Elmer L. Beckendorf Conference Center. Seating for the workshop is limited to the first 40 who register, and the registration deadline is June 17. Cost for the workshop is $50 per person and includes lunch and materials.
