Suspicious man tries to give student ride home

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office District 4, along with the Montgomery County Pct. 5 Constable’s Department, are trying to locate a man driving a blue truck who reportedly attempted to give an 11-year-old female student a ride home.

The Nichols Sawmill fourth grade student told authorities that on May 25 as she was walking home from the location where the school bus drops her off, a male driving an older model blue truck stopped and asked her multiple times if she wanted a ride to her house. The student told the male no and proceeded to run home, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The 11-year-old lives in the area of Butera Road and McIntosh Drive in Magnolia. Authorities were unsure of how far the student had to walk from the bus stop to her home.

Once home, the student told her grandmother about the incident. The grandmother then contacted the Sheriff’s Office, who arrived at about 4:30 p.m.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Dan Norris said this is the first time the vehicle has been reported to their office. He also said no similar cases have been reported in the area. The case has been turned over to the Sheriff’s Office detectives, according to Constable’s Department Sgt. Dale Park.

Norris added that the intent of the person is unknown.

“His intent whether good Samaritan or evil intent is not known at this point,” he said.

Park said if any student or person is approached by an unknown person just say “no.”

“Don’t take the chance,” he added.

Persons who feel threatened or endangered should call authorities if they have a phone or go to an area with a large group of people, according to Park.

As far as the student running home, Park said she did exactly what she should have done in her case.

As of press time last week the man and truck had not been located.
