| Former MISD employee hosting fundraiser for medical costs |
|
Kevin Brewer has been a Magnolia resident for six years and is a former employee of Magnolia ISD.
Brewer was critically injured in a motor vehicle accident recently when he was a passenger in a rollover caused by a blown tire near Bellville. He was thrown from his car through a barbed wire fence which made a deep gash across his back. His back was also broken, along with facial bones and a piece of his left heel had been sliced off.
Brewer was emergency air lifted to Memorial Hermann hospital. Since the accident he has had a total of 35 surgeries under general anesthetic. Of the 35 surgeries, 11 were during a one month hospital stay and 24 have been outpatient surgeries in order to keep the large wound on his back from becoming infected a second time.
Brewer did not suffer paralysis and his heel has been repaired. However, after he could no longer seek medical leave from the school district, he resigned.
The family is hosting a benefit on June 25 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Magnolia United Methodist Church, located on 419 Commerce Street. The fundraiser includes a spaghetti dinner, silent auction and a bake sale.
