|
Deputies with the Pct. 4 Constables Office arrested Matthew Cody Byford (pictured) on July 12 and charged him with felony criminal mischief in connection with damages he allegedly caused at two area businesses. According to the Constables Office, “approximately two months ago deputies began seeing a number of store front windows shot out up and down the FM 2920 corridor.” Investigators estimate that approximately 30 businesses have seen their windows shot out, with most of the incidents occurring “during the late evening and night time hours.” Police also discovered that whoever was shooting out the windows was doing so with a pellet gun. It is estimated that total damages to local businesses have exceeded $20,000 “and will continue to rise,” the Constables office said. Investigators were able to track Byford through the use of a credit card and “a person of interest” who police say led them to Byford. According to the Constables office, Byford stated that “he and his accomplices thought it would be fun to shoot out the windows.” So far, eight businesses have been identified as being damaged, including Guthrie’s Buildings, Jack-in-the-Box, a UPS store, Spring Klein OB GYN and Nails by Jenn. “The suspect admitted to other shootings, but could not remember all the locations,” the Constables Office said. Investigators are continuing to work to identify Byford’s alleged accomplices and other businesses that could have been affected by the suspects.
