MHS alumnus to become Commanding Officer to Navy squadron

reeves Former Magnolia High School student, now Naval Cmdr. Virgle Reeves, is on his way to becoming the Commanding Officer of the VT-10 Wildcat Squadron in Pensacola, Fla.

Reeves has worked his way up the ladder over the past 28 years and says that he is honored that the Navy has chosen him for the position.

"I am honored to be selected by the Navy to lead the squadron and to be able to play a key role in the future of our outstanding men and women in uniform," he said.

Reeves graduated from Magnolia High School in 1984. While in high school he joined the Navy through the Navy deferral program and in 1985 he officially joined the Navy.

In 1996, he received "Sailor of the Year." Reeves earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1993.

During the past 28 years, Reeves has served in Japan, Iraq and Bahrain, among numerous other locations including the U.S.

In September 2010 Reeves was promoted from Lieutenant Commander to Commander.

Currently, he is the VT-10’s Executive Officer serving alongside commanding officer Cmdr. Kevin Quarderer.

Reeves will become the Commanding Officer on Dec. 1. He will be in charge of every aspect of his squadron. He added that only one percent of military leadership has the privilege of being a commanding officer.

"The event signals a large step in responsibility," he said. "I feel personally responsible for the training of hundreds of fine aviators and it makes me proud to see the security of our great nation in the hands of such dedicated warriors."

The event will take place in Pensacola, Fla.
