Magnolia to host Corks and Canvas on the Stroll

Corks and Canvas will be coming to the Stroll Nov. 18. The event will bring art, wine, jazz and more to the half-mile outdoor venue from Sullivan Park to Sanders Street.

Music by Jonathan Christie Jazz Trio of Houston will be the background of the event. Christie is a saxophonist and instructor.

Local artists on the Stroll will include Joe Broussard of Stone Fish Pottery. He will have works on display and for sale. Broussard will be featuring his Stone Fish Pottery horsehair vases.

Also making an appearance will be Magnolia West High School student Barry Carter. He will be displaying some of his winning pieces to patrons on the Stroll. Carter earned Reserve Champion for his artwork at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He will also have his winning congressional print on display.

Other local artists will be on hand at the Corks and Canvas event, along with Magnolia authors who will be available for book signings.

In addition, local wineries will offer wine tastings throughout the evening.

“Magnolia wineries have been included on the spring Bluebonnet Wine Trail for years now,” Stroll Committee Event Chair Patsy Williams said. “And this event will highlight them, as well as local artists and authors. We are fortunate to have so many talented people who have chosen the Magnolia area as their home.”

Last year the event was named the Harvest Festival. Starting this year and for years to come, Stroll Committee member Deborah Rose Miller said the event will be named Corks and Canvas. She explained that the name Harvest Festival did not capture what the evening on the Stroll was all about. The new name will invite a broader market of patrons, she added.

Corks and Canvas on the Stroll will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Admission and parking are free. For more information, call 281-455-7987.
