MCHC saddling up for Christmas Pole, Barrel Bash

mchc The Magnolia Community Horse Club (MCHC) is preparing for its first annual Christmas Pole and Barrel Bash. The event will take place at the newly covered arena Dec. 3.

 

Participants will begin registering at 9 a.m. Exhibition Poles will follow at 9:15 a.m. with a $5 entry fee. At 10:30 a.m. the 4D Open Poles will begin, entry fee is due is $20.

 

The 2011 Fall Saddle Series Awards Ceremony will start at noon, followed by Exhibition Barrels at 2 p.m. The cost to participate in the Exhibition Barrels is $5.

 

The Lone Star Cowgirls Drill Team is set to perform after the demonstration of barrels.

 

The barrel race will begin at 5 p.m. and all races will run together. During the barrel races, 5D Open will have half-second splits and 3D Youth and 3D Novice Horse will have one-second splits. The 3D Novice Horse barrel race is for ages six and under. The cost to enter the barrel races is $25. There will also be $2,000 added to the barrel race for winners.

 

As required by state law, documents showing negative Coggins are required to sign up each horse.

MCHC welcomes spectators and admission is free for those wanting to watch the event. A concession stand is open during the events.

The arena, located at 31425 Friendship Dr., was recently covered by Montgomery County, according to MCHC member Vickie Minter.

 

MCHC President Hurshel Haley said prior to the roof construction it was difficult to hold events due to weather conditions, such as heat or rain. Now the club is able to hold events during nearly all weather, he explained.

 

MCHC is a non-profit organization formed as a means to promote equine education and good fellowship in the best interest of agriculture and horses among youth in the area. The organization plans to have more events in the future to raise funds to provide scholarships to local high school seniors.

General membership meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Membership dues are $40 per year plus six work points for a one rider family and 12 work points for a two or more rider family.
