| Unique architecture, dream home planted in Magnolia |
|
Madden said he wanted a home that was very contemporary. “I wanted to do something special,” he explained. Madden named his 12,472-square-foot home “Kaleidoscope” and decorated and customized each room to fit with the bright colors and unique shapes one might see while looking through a kaleidoscope. From the outside, the architecture of the three-story home is far more contemporary and uniquely designed then most homes in the neighborhood. The outside is made of steel, stucco and aluminum, almost giving the home a commercial building appearance, but with a custom shape. Residents driving through can see glass block windows, along with large glass windows and even a gateway entrance that matches the home’s design. At night each palm tree in the yard is lit with custom outdoor lighting. Upon entering the home, Madden walks into his large dining area and living room, complete with a marble staircase and unique and custom art throughout. He said he chose each art and furniture piece to stay consistent with the theme of his home. The kitchen has a long winding island with matching overhead lighting. The couch in the living area has the same winding look to follow the theme of the kitchen area. Large glass windows make up the wall of the backside of the home which faces the lake. Stepping outside onto the back patio, Madden has a custom outdoor kitchen and beach constructed for entertainment and fun. Near the entrance is Madden’s music room. The walls are decorated with several guitars, but most interesting of all is the oversized guitar which makes the ceiling of the room. Connected to the music room is a lavatory decorated with piano keys and a music themed sink. Also on the first floor is Madden’s office, filled with 50’s style memorabilia and painted in a bright teal. On the second floor of the home, Madden has a 50’s style pub area and a personal gym. Making his way up to the third story of the home, or the “Tower,” as Madden calls it, is quite a site. The “Tower” of his home is a single room with couches and large glass windows facing out onto the lake. But as one looks up, they are able to marvel at the sky. The room has a bright, blue sky painted on its ceiling with fiber optic lighting in place to act as stars. He said the balcony of the third story is not for the faint at heart. Each room is themed and more interesting than the next. Every aspect of the home is custom, from its sinks to its walls, curtains, sound systems and lighting. He originally lived in the home next door and bought the vacant lot to begin designing his dream home. The construction began in September 2010 and took 11 months to complete. He said he worked with several local builders, architects, interior designers and artists. Madden said he has wanted this home for “as long as I can remember.” Madden explained that he grew up in Houston with little money and has always had a dream of building an ultra contemporary home. His dream came true in April. Now, Madden is busy preparing his home for Christmas with decorations. Cutline: Magnolia resident David Madden worked with local builders and architects to construct his ultra contemporary dream home. The Indigo Lake Estates home, named “Kaleidoscope,” is uniquely constructed and themed to fit its name.
