Tomball High School to host The Nutcracker

nutcracker The Houston Repertoire Ballet (HRB), will perform the 10th annual “The Nutcracker” performance series at Tomball High School (THS) Dec. 10-11. Guest artists from two of the world’s premiere ballet companies will be featured. Jared Matthews, soloist with New York’s American Ballet Theatre is an HRB alum and Karina Gonzalez, soloist with the Houston Ballet are the guest artists.

“I am so excited about dancing with Jared,” Gonzalez said. “It is a honor and a great opportunity to share the stage with a great dancer like him and knowing that he is from Houston makes it even more special.”

The program attracts and develops young dancers in the greater Houston area, with many of the dancers advancing to professional ballet companies throughout the country. HRB graduates perform currently with world renown organizations like the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Miami City Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Atlanta Ballet and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre

“HRB is a spectacular arts organization that has cultivated a high level of dance in Houston,” Matthews said. “I am proud to have come from HRB, and to share the stage with this new generation of talented dancers.”

The dancers of HRB perform excerpts from each production and make costumed appearances at various nursing homes, libraries, group events and at Arts & Education performances. Also, HRB brings two matinee performances to Tomball ISD third grade students, fulfilling the arts component of their curriculum.

HRB provides classical ballet instruction, education and performance experience to local students that are looking at a future career in dance. Major contributors for HRB include the Houston Endowment, Inc. and ConocoPhillips. Additional support comes from ExxonMobil and Marathon.  The School Outreach Program is sponsored by Target.

The Dec. 10 performances will be at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the THS auditorium, while performances will be held at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Dec. 11. For more information call 281-940-4721.
