| Trying to escape with teen girlfriend, ‘career criminal’ nabbed by police |
|
What the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is describing as a “career criminal” is in jail after a multi-county pursuit involving Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies, Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies, Waller County authorities and Brenham Police.
Authorities say 38-year-old James Davis attempted to ram the car of the parents of a 16-year-old girl who was riding in his pick-up during a recent chase. The incident occurred early on March 20 when the parents of a girl working at the Best Car Wash in the 5400 block of Fry Road were notified by their oldest daughter that their younger daughter was leaving work with another employee, identified as Davis. When the parents arrived to prevent the girl from leaving with James, he sped off going west on Highway 290. Deputies began pursuing Davis’ pick-up, which reached speeds of approximately 100 miles per hour on several occasions. Davis finally pulled over and stopped at the intersection of Highway 290 and Route 36 in Brenham, where he surrendered without incident. During questioning, the 16-year-old female stated that she was trying to leave with Davis and that the two were romantically involved. Records indicate that a sexual assault report was filed against Davis by the girl’s mother on March 8 when Davis had been observed leaving the girl’s residence during the early morning hours. Davis was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for having intentionally tried to collide with the parents’ vehicle. His bond is set at $30,000. The District Attorney’s office is considering further charges. Records indicate that Davis served three different jail sentences and has had a criminal history since 1991.
