White Dove of Hope Revs Up for 2009 Demolition Derby

derby1_pic The White Dove of Hope Annual Demolition Derby is slated for April 24 and 25 at the Chad Treichel Memorial Arena located at FM 1488 and Field Store Road in the Field Store Community of Waller County.

The Derby got its start in 2002 when a group of people came together to organize a benefit for the family of a young girl suffering from terminal cancer. At the group’s first meeting, it was agreed upon that it would be the first of many benefits, not for just one individual or family, but to help as many people in the community as possible. The benefit was successful in raising more than $30,000.

As a result of those efforts, the White Dove of Hope was incorporated as a 501 (3) (c) in 2003 and was organized with the goal of helping those in the community who are faced with crisis in their lives by providing monetary relief for every day or extraordinary expenses, according to President Leonard Treichel.

Activities begin on April 24 with a two-day barbecue cook off. Entry is $10 for beans and gumbo with turn-in scheduled for 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively.

Saturday turn-ins start at 10 a.m. with a $20 entry fee for the Open category followed by an $80 entry fee for three meat categories, including chicken at 11 a.m., ribs 12 a.m. and brisket 1 p.m. Each meat team should turn in an extra brisket to be used in the concession stand.

Cook-off awards and pay-outs will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday followed by a Live Auction that will include an exclusive White Dove derby car and free entry for the high-bid driver and his pit boss.

The Texas Four Wheel Drive Organization will get the crowd revved up with plenty of fast four-wheel maneuvering preceding the Grand Entry at 5 p.m.

Driver packets are available by visiting the TWS Shop at 2909 Washington in Waller, Larry’s Automotive at 30540 FM 1488 in Fields Store or on line at www.whitedoveofhope.org.
