MPD to host first Citizen’s Police Academy

The Magnolia Police Department (MPD) is set to host its first annual Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA) beginning Feb. 2. Community members 18 years old or older who live, work, shop or attend school in the City of Magnolia are invited to participate.

The CPA was established to build on the relationship between the citizens of Magnolia and MPD by increasing awareness of safety and giving citizens a better understanding of the issues and risks that shape the way officers perform their duties in partnership with the community, according to MPD.

“It is the belief of MPD that sharing knowledge of police practices, policies and procedures serves as a critical component in building meaningful relationships between officers and those they are sworn to protect,” MPD stated in a press release.

The CPA consists of eight classroom sessions covering subjects such as patrol tactics, investigation procedures, search and seizure, driving while intoxicated enforcement, accident investigations, dispatch operations and traumas in law enforcement.

The 2012 class will be held Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning Feb. 2 and culminating with a graduation ceremony March 29.

There is no charge for participation.

Applications may be obtained from the MPD office located at 18111 Buddy Riley Blvd. between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applications may also be obtained by visiting cityofmagnolia.com.
