Police arrest man who they say severely beat teen girl

Quick action by Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies led to the arrest of a man in connection with the brutal assault of a young woman around 11 p.m. April 16 in the 9600 block of Grant Road.

Deputies say a 24-year-old female and 24-year-old Ricky Payne got into a heated argument at the woman’s apartment. As the argument escalated, an 18-year-old female friend of the woman attempted to intervene. At that point, Payne allegedly began assaulting the 18-year-old to the point where he slammed her head against the sidewalk several times. He then fled the scene.

The 24-year-old woman attempted to get her friend medical help by driving her to Willowbrook Hospital, but told authorities no one was at the front desk when she arrived. She then drove to the 18-year-old’s apartment in the 11000 block of Grant Road and called 911.

On arrival, Harris County Sheriff’s Reserve Deputies B. Reed and J. Nadalo immediately began piecing together information and learned that the suspect’s mother lived in South Houston. The two reserve deputies along with Sheriff’s Patrol Deputy C. Stokes drove to the 3800 block of Knotty Oaks Trail in South Houston and located Payne. He was arrested without incident.

Payne is currently in the Harris County Jail charged with Aggravated Assault with a $10,000 bond. He also had an outstanding traffic warrant from the Pct. 4 Constable’s Office.

At press time last week, the 18-year-old is being treated at Tomball Regional Hospital and is expected to recover.
