| Annual Fun Run raises thousands for YMCA, MESO |
|
The annual Fun Run sponsored by the Magnolia Educators Scholarship Organization (MESO) and the Magnolia YMCA was held recently at Magnolia West High School Stadium. The event was held to provide assistance to the MESO scholarship program, which raises money to provide scholarships to Magnolia ISD graduates who wish to pursue a career in education, and the YMCA Financial Assistance Program, which that allows the YMCA to keep their programs open to all regardless of their inability to pay.
More than 550 students, teachers, and community members supported the event, which helped raise more than $6,000. The first place trophy was awarded to the school that had the most participation, Ellisor Elementary, with 165 participants. The second place plaque went to Nichols-Sawmill Elementary with 53 participants.
Nita McNulty, MESO president and organizer of the event said, “Although the numbers were down from last year (800 to 550), I was happy to see that even in these hard economic times our community and school are still willing to support a fun family activity.” “Being a good teacher involves so much more than what we do within the four walls of our classroom,” McNulty added. “It means giving back to a profession that we have dedicated our lives to and by supporting a community that supports our kids.”
