College System making plans for annual fundraising gala

The Lone Star College Foundation’s “StarGala 2009 Summer in the City” is set for May 30 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott.

Money raised through the gala benefits student scholarships, academic programs and faculty projects. This event has steadily grown in popularity, attendance and revenue, last year raising nearly $400,000 for student scholarships.

This year, StarGala 2009 will honor Elmer Beckendorf, John Wiesner and Land Tejas Companies for their commitment to education and dedication to Lone Star College System and their local communities.

The evening will feature a tribute to the honorees, live and silent auctions, bid boards, dancing and raffles.

“We already have a lot of interesting and exciting items available in our auctions,” said Linda Humphries, gala co-chair. “This promises to be a great evening.”

Gala auction items include a round-trip business class airfare for two on Emirates Airlines from Houston to Dubai; a one-week stay in a five-bedroom, vacation log home in Pagosa Springs, Colo.; a two-night stay in a luxury suite at Hotel ZaZa; two first-class round-trip tickets on Continental Airlines for U.S. 48 travel, including Alaska, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean; and a Carlton Woods golf package for four.

Tickets, tables and sponsorships are still available. Contact the LSC Foundation at 832-813-6640 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for more information.
