|
A Magnolia man was among six arrested June 9 when the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Auto Theft Task Force (ATTF) uncovered what they believe was a chop shop for stolen vehicles.
Tom Vanornum, 19, of Magnolia, along with Alex Lopez, 29 of Conroe, Gabriel Ortiz, 24 of Spring, Austin Warren, 18 of Conroe and Cameron Barrick, 18 of Conroe were all arrested for Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity-Theft Felony 2. In the early morning hours of June 9, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office received a call involving a “vehicle disturbance” in the 15400 block of Conroe Drive, off of Old Conroe-Magnolia Road. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver of a vehicle had run into several other vehicles along the road. When police arrived, they arrested 23-year-old Andrew Barrick in connection with the incident. During the investigation, officers discovered that many of the vehicles parked along the roadway were Hondas with missing vehicle identification numbers. In addition, a motor and transmission were found to be from a stolen Honda. Police say a resident stated that he was operating a newly established tuning business. Accordig to the Sheriff’s Office, “ATTF investigators examined approximately 20 vehicles on site and seized seven vehicles that were either stolen or had stolen motors and transmissions in them.” Several vehicle component parts were linked to stolen vehicles throughout the south Montgomery County area, “and as far away as the state of Washington,” the Sheriff’s Office reported. The investigation is continuing and ATTF Investigators are asking that anyone who has done business with these individuals or SR Tuning to contact the ATTF Office at 936-760-5847.
