| Two arrested at local dance hall after alleged assault of officers |
|
Two Harris County Sheriff’s Office sergeants and a waitress are recovering from various minor injuries after an altercation at a Tomball area dance hall early July 19.
The two sergeants were working security at the Red River Dance Hall on Tomball Parkway when one of them, Sgt. R. Merchant, was alerted by patrons that a man was slumped over a table in one corner of the nightclub. Merchant asked the man to leave several times, but he refused. As Merchant tried to escort the man out of the club, he became violent and attempted to fight the officer.
As the second officer, Sgt. M. Defferari, attempted to assist Merchant, the man’s son ran down a flight of stairs and knocked over a waitress carrying a tray full of drinks. The son then began fighting the officers, as well. Witnesses say two female customers attempted to help the belligerent patrons while other customers tried to help the officers.
The two sergeants were able to quickly gain control of the situation and moved the two suspects outside the nightclub where they attempted to handcuff both men. The son, identified later as Uriah Adams, was handcuffed with little problems. His father, Lorne Adams, kept resisting the officer’s efforts to handcuff him. It took several attempts before the sergeants finally succeeded.
Lorne Adams, 40, was booked on a Class A Assault of a Public Servant. He is currently free on a $1,000 bond. Uriah Adams, 21, was booked on a charge of Assault of a Public Servant/Bodily Injury. He is free on a $10,000 bond. Records indicate the younger Adams is currently on parole out of Polk County for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
