| Miss Tomball Pageant going high tech at new venue |
|
“We are coming of age,” Pageant Director Faye Drennan said. “We are moving into the 21st Century in a large way.”
For 43 years the Miss Tomball Pageant was held in the Tomball Intermediate School auditorium, which seated 900. While this tradition is passing, Chamber officials say the auditorium is undergoing changes as well.

Last month, Drennan and Miss Tomball Chairwoman Sandy Krug met with Joel Wetzstein, programming director of Salem Lutheran Church, and Marty Paluch, director of operations. Testing two huge on-stage screens and custom block lighting for colors turned into a theater-like production.
“This is an incredible theatrical setting and one that the community is well familiar with,” Drennan said.
With seating for 1,600 Drennan and Krug are anticipating 1,200 for the scholarship pageant.
“In the past, we have had a problem with families having enough seating for everyone together,” Krug said. “At the Salem Lutheran worship center this will not be a problem.”
“We are very happy the pageant will be here,” Paluch said. “It will give us the opportunity to let the community see what Salem Lutheran has to offer.”
The upcoming November pageant is expected to draw a record number of contestants to the new venue. To be eligible, contestants must reside in the Tomball Independent School District or have a Tomball address and be enrolled in a public or private school or be home-schooled, classified as a junior or senior, no younger than 15 and no older than 19 years of age.
Applications for the 2010 Miss Tomball Pageant will open Sept. 1. For more information, call the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce at 281-351-7222, visit TomballChamber.org or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
