Council approves plans for November Fun Run

The Tomball City Council approved a request by Woodforest National Bank at the council’s Sept. 21 meeting to have a 5K Fun Run in the city on Nov. 14.

Woodforest managers Starla O’Dell and Brett Sims requested the support of the city, which will include security by members of the Tomball Police Department, restroom access and approval for a Main Street banner.

The bank timed the run so that it will be held in conjunction with the city’s Second Saturday at the Depot, which will be held the same day. Organizers of the event are planning on utilizing the city’s facilities, such as portable restrooms, for the Fun Run.

The in-kind services provided by the city are estimated at $2,883, which includes police time and the cost of supplies for the run. The council approved the services in the vote.

Sims and O’Dell also said they will be seeking additional sponsors and businesses to support the event.

Proceeds from the run will go to the Woodforest Charitable Foundation.

Sims said Woodforest will place promotional posters at several Houston area locations promoting the event in an attempt to draw runners. According to the city, the 5K path will follow the same as the Bunny Run held earlier this year.
