Miss Tomball Pageant application deadline nearing

The deadline for high school junior and senior girls interested in applying as contestants in the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce 2010 Miss Tomball Pageant is nearing. The deadline for applications is Oct. 9. Applications are available at the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce, 29201 Quinn Rd., Ste. B.

The pageant has a few notable changes this year. Applicants who do not live in Tomball but attend a school with a Tomball address are now eligible to enter the pageant. In addition, contestants who have a mandatory school event may be exempt from a pageant rehearsal or photo session. Lastly, applicants who have received a Class C misdemeanor traffic ticket are eligible to participate in the pageant.

Each year the Chamber kicks off the holiday season with its annual themed parade, which according to tradition, takes place the morning of the pageant. This year’s parade theme is Holidays Around the World and will begin at 10 a.m., on Nov. 21, following a parade route along Main Street.

After a day of pageant activities, including the parade, the 2010 Miss Tomball Pageant will begin at 7 p.m. For the first time in its history, the Miss Tomball Pageant, which celebrates its 44th year this year, will be held in the Salem Lutheran Church worship center — a highly acclaimed performance venue in Tomball.

Contestants will be introduced on stage in the Little Black Dress segment and be presented in evening attire as well. Contestants will be judged on the basis of poise, personality and beauty. Ten semi-finalists will be chosen and five finalists will be awarded trophies, in addition to other prizes and gifts. After the judges’ decision, the 2010 Miss Tomball will be crowned by reigning 2009 Miss Tomball Amanda Chapline and will be awarded a college scholarship.

For more information, call Faye Drennan, Miss Tomball Pageant Director, at the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce, 281-351-7222 or go by the Chamber office at 29201 Quinn Rd., Ste. B during regular business hours.
