New playground opens at Burroughs Park

Harris County Pct. 4 Commissioner Jerry Eversole recently announced the completion of a new playground at Burroughs Park in Tomball. The playground was designed specifically for children ages 2 to 5 years old and allows up to 88 children to play at the same time.

The new playground features 18 play events within the 60- by 50-foot play area. Installation of the new playground was awarded to T. F. Harper & Associates, L. P. and cost $50,000. With the new amenity, Burroughs Park boasts four divided playgrounds in addition to a sandbox play area and swing/slide play area.

“Our goal is to continue adding and improving amenities in Pct. 4 parks for residents to enjoy. The new playground at Burroughs is just one of several new amenities in the parks system that meets our goal,” Eversole said.

Burroughs Park is a 320-acre facility with lush scenery, winding trails, and a seven-acre lake for fishing. Amenities include athletic fields, playgrounds, hike and bike trails, a 300-seat pavilion available upon reservations, picnic areas, an observation deck and boardwalk, and restroom facilities.

Additionally, Burroughs Park hosts Pct. 4’s annual “Sunday Afternoon in the Park” on the third Sunday of each October. This free event is open to the public and features carnival games, clowns, concessions, face painting, fishing, hay rides, musical entertainment, wildlife exhibits and more.

For more information regarding the new playground, contact the Pct. 4 Parks Administrator Dennis Johnston at 281-353-8100 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Yes, that is a problem with parks and playgrounds. Unless these areas have heavy police protection they can become a bad place for children and families. Not to mention protecting the equipment from vandals. It is a shame, but it happens.
