TRMC among nation’s top 10 % in pulmonary and stroke care

trmc Tomball Regional Medical Center (TRMC) was recently named one of the best facilities in the nation for pulmonary and stroke care by an independent ratings organization.

HealthGrades rates hospitals independently based on data that hospitals submit to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services. The program is not based upon voluntary participation; no hospital can opt in or out of being rated, and no hospital pays to be rated.

A recent report issued by HealthGrades named Tomball Regional Medical Center among the top 10 percent in the nation in pulmonary and stroke care, and as a result, the hospital was given Specialty Excellence awards in both categories.

“We are proud to achieve this distinction,” TRMC CEO Lynn LeBouef said. “People in Northwest Houston are entitled to receive comprehensive, high quality care and this certification attests to the skill set of our staff and the quality of our medical resources.”

LeBouef called the distinction an “external confirmation from an independent source that we do as good as, and sometimes better than, the Medical Center.”

In addition to the Excellence Awards, TRMC received five-star ratings in the treatment of heart failure, stroke, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, GI bleeding, respiratory failure and appendectomy.

Nearly 5,000 hospitals were included in the study, which examined mortality rates and complication rates from government data from 2006, 2007 and 2008.

LeBouef explained that hospital staff submits a complete data record of every patient’s stay to Medicare organizations, including clinical outcomes, a record of all procedures performed on a patient, length of stay and selections of antibiotics.

“Every time we have an admission to the hospital, we have to report our quality indicators to HealthCare,” LeBouef said.

“Thanks to an outstanding staff, innovative physicians and wonderful volunteers, we have earned such a prestigious achievement. Each person has played an integral role to help us achieve these awards,” LeBouef said. “It makes me proud to be a part of such a great team.”
