The Waller Area Chamber of Commerce (WACC) is extending the deadline for applications for the 2nd Annual Miss Teen Waller County Pageant, which will be held Jan. 16. at Waller High School. Participants will be competing for scholarship funds, which will be awarded to the top three contestants.

The deadline for submitting applications is now Nov. 20 by 4 p.m. at the Waller Area Chamber of Commerce office, located at 1110 Farr Street in Waller (next to Waller City Hall).

More than $6,000 in scholarships were awarded during the 2008 pageant.

“We hope that a lot of young ladies in Waller County will take advantage of an opportunity to get scholarship funds for their education, and we decided to extend the deadline to give more of those young ladies as much time as possible to apply,” Chamber president Trey Duhon said.

At a minimum, scholarships will be awarded for first, second and third places. Contestants’ personality, intelligence, poise and individuality will be evaluated and judged in the categories of interview questions, evening gown and sportswear. Young women who are junior or senior high school students between the ages of 16 and 19 and enrolled in a public, private, home or parochial school within the Royal, Hempstead, or Waller School Districts are qualified to compete for one of three scholarship awards and be crowned Miss Teen Waller County 2010. Additional qualification details can be found in the application packets.

Applications are now available at: Curves in Hempstead and Waller, Roxanne’s Hair Salon in Hempstead, Toni and Co., Waller Florist in Waller, Garrett’s County Place in Pattison, Times Tribune and Orlando’s Pizza in Brookshire, and all area high schools in Waller, Hempstead, Royal and Rosehill Christian.
