MCEA grant will aid some county residents with rent payments

Montgomery County Emergency Assistance (MCEA) has received a $20,000 grant from the Montgomery County Community Foundation. This grant will allow MCEA to assist Montgomery County residents with rent who have suffered a crisis and are at risk of becoming homeless.

“We are so pleased to receive this generous support from the Montgomery County Community Foundation,” said David Hwa, MCEA Executive Director. “Economic conditions in our community today are brutal. Jobs are being eliminated, hours cut back, few are re-hiring, medical bills are through the roof. These funds will provide much needed relief for many families that are struggling to make ends meet.”

The assistance typically provided by MCEA is in the form of a financial subsidy to a client’s rent/mortgage bill. The client must prove personal crisis, such as layoff, illness, injury or weather-related disaster. This temporary financial assistance forestalls eviction and enables clients to get back on track with their lives.

MCEA has five offices located in Conroe, The Woodlands, Magnolia, Willis and New Caney. For more information about Montgomery County Emergency Assistance, call the Conroe office at 936-539-9211 or visit their Web site at www.mcea-tx.org.
