| Magnolia Ridge back on track after years of setbacks |
|
After years of arrested development and changes in ownership and in the midst of a struggling economy, Magnolia’s large-scale neighborhood Magnolia Ridge is finally on track to begin housing residents.
The subdivision, located off FM 1488 near Buddy Riley Boulevard, currently has no residents living there, but new homes are currently being built and more are planned for the future. “We’ve started the first two homes and we’re starting six more,” said Mike Karm, owner of Larus Builders, a construction company based in Magnolia and one of the original builders to sign on to build in the neighborhood. “We’re trying to let the realtors know that it’s finally here,” he said. Karm, who is vice president of the Magnolia 4B Community Development Corp. and chairman of the Magnolia Music Festival, has spent a long time trying to get the subdivision going. In continuing that effort, an event was held Dec. 2 at the subdivision to attract realtors to the project, which Karm said was a success. “It was unbelievable, we had well over a hundred people there,” he said. Karm said that the advantages the neighborhood offers to homeowners are what will attract homeowners to buy there. “We have lots that allow us to build affordable products. Magnolia’s never had that opportunity before,” he said. “Realtors were really excited, and with the eight grand stimulus money from the government, they were looking at a lot of first time home owners.”
