“This represents a promised fulfilled,” said Dr. Richard Carpenter, LSCS chancellor.

“Community leaders approached Lone Star College in 2007 requesting that a new university be established in the northwest Harris County area. The opening this month of LSC-University Park is another step toward fulfilling that vision,” Carpenter said.

This 1.2 million square foot of space, located at SH 249 and Louetta Road, will include a new university center, the former LSC-Willow Chase center, Lone Star Corporate College, LSC-Online and the new high-tech Lone Star College Conference Center, which marked its official opening in December.

The LSC-University Park buildings have been renovated with new stairwells, hallways and other amenities and transformed into modern, high-tech classroom space for the classes that will begin Jan. 19 for Lone Star students. Each floor also includes comfortable student lounge and study areas with computers.

The new University Center, which is located in the building right next door to the LSC-University Park classrooms, is slated for opening later in the spring with multiple university partners.

Penny Westerfeld, interim CEO of LSC-University Park, said that she is eager to get the semester underway.

“Given the imagination of the employees, faculty and community, the opportunities for LSC-University Park are limitless,” Westerfeld said. “In partnership with our community here, we can do anything.

“Students in this community will have a four-year plan with the universities right here on site,” she said.

A new full-service bookstore is already in operation at LSC-University Park and the on-site cafeteria, in partnership with Luby’s, will be open when classes begin.

In addition, a new Veterans Affairs Center, which is available now to serve veterans as needed, will hold an official grand opening later in the spring semester.
