I am very disappointed in the decision of the (Magnolia) City Council on the vacant council seat. I am an active voter and have lived in the community for 11 years. I am active in this community. I myself had to give up a position on the Planning Commission last year due to the fact that raising a family and running a household have time constraints.

I am one of the six people in the Tribune article that supported Basil Tate. I received a phone call on Wednesday (June 9) from a council member who did not support Basil Tate and for reasons I am still unclear of. I have read this Tribune article and have many questions. The article states that Mr. Schod is a family man, he has been working hard to stay married 26 years and he owns a business in HOUSTON. (Not Magnolia.)

He has worked seven days a week for the last six years and has not attended any council meetings because of work constraints. WHY???? Would the three council members with the support of the Mayor appoint someone who has no time to attend city council meetings which is required and would have no time to make decisions for the better of the citizens of Magnolia?

Would Mr. Schod be making rushed choices because of time constraints? Basil Tate is very active in the community. He is retired with a background in accounting (which the city could benefit from). He is very honest and takes the people of Magnolia in his best interest and decisions and most importantly, has the time to serve on the council.

I think the voters should have had a chance to vote on this very important decision for the future of the city. Not three council members with the support of Mayor Kana in a closed session. The council did not take the people of Magnolia in consideration in their decision-making voting on someone with time constraints. How could Mr. Schod be an asset to the City?
