With just three games remaining in the regular season, the Magnolia Lady Bulldog softball team has all but assured itself of a postseason berth and are still within striking distance of a district title.

At 7-3 in district at press time last week, the Lady Bulldogs sat just one game behind district-leading Montgomery, who held an 8-2 district record.

Magnolia closed the gap on the Lady Bears April 6 in one of their biggest wins of the season, a 3-2 victory at Montgomery, pulling the Lady Bulldogs closer to the top spot.

Should the Lady Bears falter in the final week of the season, Magnolia, as well as Willis at 7-2 in district play, will be looking to make the jump to the top spot.

The good news for the Lady Bulldogs heading into the final three games of the season is that their opponents currently sit in the second half of the district standings: Magnolia West and Brenham are battling for fourth place while Huntsville looks to be headed for a seventh place finish out of eight district teams.

The bad news is that of the remaining three games, two are on the road. However, their season finale is a short trip west on FM 1488 when they visit their cross-town rivals, Magnolia West.

Meanwhile, in Tomball, the Lady Cougars are leading the fight in 13-5A for the district title with an 8-1 record, one game better than the Klein Lady Bearcats at 7-2.

Like the Lady Bulldogs, Tomball has three remaining contests on the season, but none against their nearest competitor. In their second district game of the season, Klein knocked off the Lady Cougars 4-3 on April 1, making the final two weeks of the season even more critical.

A pair of testy, but favorable, match-ups await Tomball on April 20 against a pesky Spring team and the April 23 season finale against a 6-3 Klein Collins squad that looks to be among the four district playoff teams.
