| Lady Bulldogs, Cougars once again playoff bound |

As sure as death, taxes and the sunrise, the Magnolia Lady Bulldog and Tomball Lady Cougar softball teams are headed to the playoffs. With a 13-1 district record at press time, the Tomball Lady Cougars have wrapped up yet another district championship and have earned the a No. 1 seed in the Region 2 playoffs. Tomball will take on the fourth place team from district 14-5A, which could be College Park, Lufkin or Oak Ridge. The Lady Cougars’ first round game will be played the week of May 3 at a time and place to be determined. Tomball finished well ahead of the pack in 13-5A this season, with the closest team two full games back. At press time last week, Klein and Klein Collins were both 9-4 in district play. The lone blemish on the Lady Cougars’ district mark came April 1when they fell to Klein, 4-3. Other than that slip up, Tomball has been dominant this season. In their 22 wins overall in 2010, the Lady Cougars’ offense has scored in the double digits 13 times. The pitching and defense has also been stellar, with the Lady Cougars shutting out their opponent 10 times this season. Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs have earned district 18-4A’s No. 2 seed after a second place finish and 12-3 district record. Magnolia wrapped up its regular season with a 7-3 win over Magnolia West on April 20. They will take on the third place team, which has yet to be determined, from district 17-4A in the first round of the Region 3 playoffs. The Lady Bulldogs finished a half game behind the Montgomery Lady Bears, who compiled an 11-2-1 district record on their way to earning the top seed in the district. Magnolia is entering the playoffs on a roll, having won their final five games of the regular season. They are led offensively by Jackie Baimbridge, who finished the year as the team’s leading hitter with a .400 average. Reggie Harrison hit .324 on her way to a team-leading 12 RBI. From the circle, Katy Adair finished 15-7 with a solid 1.73 ERA and 180 strikeouts in 142 innings pitched. For updated playoff pairings, visit www.uil.texas.edu.
