Former Bulldog Stewart receives SHSU endowment scholarship

stewart Randy Stewart, a junior safety and special teams player for the Sam Houston State University (SHSU) Bearkat football team, and former Magnolia Bulldog, was honored as the recipient of the Thomas F. Davis Football Endowment scholarship in a ceremony prior to Sam Houston's 31-29 victory over Texas State in the final game of the 2010 season Saturday, Nov. 20, at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium.

The Thomas F. Davis Football Endowment is given in honor of Tommy Davis, former All-America and All-Lone Star Conference football player and math professor at SHSU.

The award is given annually to a football player who exhibits character on the football field and high performance in the classroom.

Stewart earned his third Bearkat football letter this season as a special teams player and reserve safety. The three-time Southland Conference Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll member owns a 3.29 overall grade point average as an accounting major. During the 2010 spring semester, Stewart produced a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

He was the winner of the SHSU Lettermen's Association T award as outstanding sophomore student-athlete of 2008-09. He was a two-time All-District 15-5A defensive back for coach Ron Lynch at Magnolia.
