MHS’ Randall, Holland named to area volleyball all-star game

Even though their season has been over for more than two months, members of the Magnolia Lady Bulldog volleyball squad are still earning accolades.

The latest will come on Saturday, Feb. 5 when Lady Bulldogs Katzy Randall and Paige Holland and Magnolia head volleyball coach Terri Johnson will take part in the inaugural Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association All-Star Tournament. The tournament will showcase the top senior volleyball talent in the Houston area and will be held at Pearland High School.

The one-day tournament will feature four teams, Houston North, Houston South, Houston East and Houston West. However, rather than populate each team with its directionally-equivelant schools, the teams are mixed with players from various schools throughout the Houston area, often sending teammates to opposing squads.

For example, Lady Bulldog outside hitter Randall will compete for the Houston North team, while Holland will play for the Houston East squad, which is being coached by Johnson.

In the first round of games, North will take on South at noon, followed by the East vs. West contest at 1:30 p.m. The third place match pitting the losers of the first round games will take place at 3 p.m., followed by the Championship Match featuring the two first round winning teams at 4:30 p.m.

Randall was ninth among Houston area leaders last year in kills with 543 for the season, an average of 3.93 per game. The Lady Bulldogs as a team were the Houston area kill leaders with 1,770.

Holland, meanwhile, led all Houston area players in assists with 1,383, nearly 100 more than next closest competitor.

The Lady Bulldogs finished 37-10 overall and 14-1 in District 18-4A. After winning the district title, the Lady Bulldogs went on a long playoff run, defeating The Woodlands, New Caney, Beaumont Ozen and Montgomery before falling to Friendswood in the Region 3 semi-finals.
