Five Cougars sign offers on National Signing Day

signing The spectacle that is National Signing Day in Texas converged on Tomball High School Feb. 2 when four Cougar football players and one soccer standout signed national letters of intent to play in college.

In front of a few hundred students, parents, coaches and teachers, Jared Heim, Logan Miller, Kaleb Brigman, Malcolm Scott and Dillon Duarte signed scholarship offers with Scott and Duarte headed to Division 1 colleges.

Scott, a First Team 13-5A performer who led the district with 10 interceptions, is headed to the University of Texas at San Antonio, which will play its first ever season of college football as a Division 1 school as a member of the Western Athletic Conference in 2012.

Duarte was one of the most accurate and clutch kickers in the Houston area last season for the Cougars. Duarte chose, nearly at the last minute, to attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Brigman, also a First Team All-District selection as an offensive lineman, will attend and play football for Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla.

One of his teammates this year will now become his conference foe.

Punter Jared Heim signed on to play for Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Okla. Heim was a Second Team All-District performer for the Cougars last year.

Football wasn’t the only sport represented on National Signing Day at Tomball. Miller signed his scholarship offer to play soccer at Regis University in Denver, Colo.

Last year the Cougar football team enjoyed its best season in more than 30 years. The Cougars finished 20-3 overall and 5-2 in district, good for second place in 13-5A.

They defeated Kingwood and Austin Anderson in the playoffs before falling to Longview in the regional semifinals.
