Rosehill Christian School athletic director Len Shelby has been wearing two hats the last four years by serving as the varsity football coach along with his AD duties.

At the end of last season he announced his departure from the coaching arena in order to concentrate more of his time on the administrative duties of Rosehill’s athletic programs. He began his search by posting the position on various coaching and athletic organization websites.   More than 45 applicants responded, most of them with experience and interest in the 11-man game. Rosehill participates in TAPPS 6-man football which is quite distinctive from the traditional football in which most are familiar. 

After speaking with several applicants via phone and e-mail, Shelby met with his football players who would be entering their senior season next fall. Most of these players “have been together since their freshman year,” Shelby said. “I wanted them to know they were heard and had input for my consideration in this important selection.” Shelby then narrowed the list to five candidates.

Ultimately, Ryan Anthony was named head football coach for Rosehill Christian School effective immediately. Anthony has taught at RCS for the past 2 ½ years and served as a varsity assistant and head middle school coach during that time. 

Anthony has a Master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in Strength and Conditioning. He has also been the leader of the Young Life program at Oak Ridge High School for the past three years. Shelby stated that Anthony “has a passion for helping all of our student athletes to become faster and stronger. He also has a passion for 6-man football and to continue the winning traditions for the Eagles of Rosehill Christian.”

The Rosehill Christian Eagles were back-to-back Division I District 5 Champions for the past two years, finishing 4-0 in district play last year.
