magnolia golf The 2011 District 17-4A boys’ golf championship was held April 4-5 at Pebble Creek Country Club and even though no teams from Magnolia ISD qualified for regionals, the district will still be represented by two low scorers.

Magnolia’s Joe Molina and Magnolia West’s Cody Bishop, both sophomores, qualified for the regional meet, scheduled for April 20-21 at Ravens Nest golf club in Huntsville after shooting the two lowest combined totals over two rounds.

Bishop shot an 82-68 for a two-day total of 150, the lowest score of the tournament, winning the individual title. Coming in second overall and one shot behind Bishop was Molina, who shot a 76-75 and a total of 151.

The Bulldog golf team fielded two five-man squads, while Magnolia West and Waller each put one team in the tournament. None of the four advanced to regionals, with the Mustang golf team coming the closest, finishing third.

The Magnolia West golf team, made up of Bishop, Reese Chance, Garrett Whorley, Brandon Wilson and Todd Slater, shot a two-day combined total of 651, well off the pace set by the teams fielded by Montgomery High School.

Montgomery I shot a tournament-low 622, while Montgomery II finished four strokes back of the team lead with a score of 626. Those two squads qualified for the regional meet in Huntsville.

The Magnolia I team of Molina, Bradley Fleming, Scott Dunn, Daniel Werner and Troy Harrell shot a two-day combined score of 657, good for fifth place.

Magnolia II, which included Luke Gaze, Jacob Greathouse, Troy Blount, Kardi Hicks and Cade Jackson, combined for a 714, which put them in ninth place out of 10 teams.

The Waller Bulldog team, which was made up of Zach Hendrix, Peyton Crawford, Luke Brayan, Jacob Schmidt and Bradon Boyd, combined for a two-day score of 713, good for eighth place.
