Lady Bulldog track wins second straight district title

The Waller Lady Bulldog varsity track team competed at District 17-4A track and field championships April 12-13. On Day 1 the Lady Bulldogs posted 50 points in four events, outdistancing the second place team by 21 points going into preliminary running events. 

 

In the high jump, seniors Kelcie Venden and Kalani Ratcliffe took second and third place, respectively.  In the pole vault, Kaitlyn Marcisz took third place, qualifying for regionals. 

 

Another senior advancing to regionals is Tori Bradbury, who finished second in the discus. In the long jump sophomore Taylor Thomas continued her great year taking first in the long jump, as well as in the triple jump on Day 2. She set a personal record in the triple jump with a jump of 37’2-3/4”.

 

On Day 2 of the meet, the Lady Bulldogs advanced a competitor in every event to regionals. 

 

The day kicked off as the 4-by-100 relay took third place. 

 

Junior Lydia Brooks continued to have an outstanding year as she took first in the 100-meter hurdles and second in the 300-meter hurdles. Dai’jah Jones and Angelica Grayson stepped up as freshmen, in contributing largely to the success of the team.  Jones took first in the 100-meter, while Grayson took third place, running a school record 60.18, both qualifying for regionals. 

 

The day capped off as the 4-by-400-meter relay team took first place, running a time of 4:05.58 and setting a school record. After the win, the Lady Bulldogs were able to hold off Stratford for the team championship.  The Lady Bulldogs made it back-to-back team district champions in District 17-4A. Waller advanced in nine events and two relays to the Region III 4A meet at Sam Houston State University on May 2-3.
