Local Paint Horse youth competitor Lauren Boris of Tomball captured a World Championship title at the 2011 American Paint Horse Association (APHA) Youth World Championship Paint Horse Show. The show was held June 24 through July 2 in Fort Worth and is a premier event of the APHA. Boris captured the championship in Youth Barrel Racing 14-18, showing Summers April Te, a 1998 mare owned by the rider. In this class, competitors are timed as they complete a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels. Youth are classified as competitors ages 18 and under who are required to show a horse they own personally or owned by a family member. The World Championship Paint Horse Shows feature the finest gathering of Paint Horses from around the world. APHA hosts two annual World Shows to showcase the talents of American Paint Horses and their owners. This year’s APHA Youth World Championship Show, held at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth’s cultural district, consisted of 326 talented horses and 1,150 entries. Exhibitors competed for prizes and cash payouts totaling $100,000.
