Former Cougar, Butler, nominated for courage award

jimmy butler Former Tomball Cougar and 2011 NBA first-round draft pick Jimmy Butler was nominated for the America’s Choice Honor for Courage in Sports. The honor is completely determined by fan voting and recognizes individuals who have overcome challenges in their lives to achieve success in the world of sports.

 

Butler was a first-round choice of the Chicago Bulls, after a standout career at Marquette. Butler was homeless at 13, bouncing from house-to-house every few days until he found the Lambert family of Tomball.

 

Butler was overlooked coming out of Tomball and had to prove himself at Tyler Junior College until Marquette found him and offered a scholarship. Look for a more in-depth look at Butler’s story in a future edition of The Tribune.

 

The winner will be announced on a one-hour Courage in Sports special that will air on Nov. 13, on CBS.
