Local volleyball teams have successful week

magnolia west vb Magnolia Lady Bulldogs

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs remained undefeated in district play after defeating Northbrook on Sept. 23 and Waller on Sept. 27.

 

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Northbrook 25-8, 25-14 and 25-8. Kylie Randall led Magnolia with 13 kills, while Kerstin Cleveland added six and Carly Cuevas added five. Morgan Miller contributed 17 assists and Chelsea Reynolds added six serving aces.

 

Magnolia then took on Waller, cooling off a team who had been on a roll lately. The Lady Bulldogs won 25-15, 25-15, 25-21.

 

Kylie Randall slammed down 21 kills, giving her 1,000 for her high school career. She also added 13 digs in the win.

 

Alyssa Fulgium added 23 assists and Shayna Daniels contributed 12 assists. The win improved Magnolia to 22-12 on the season and 6-0 in district play.

 

Tomball Lady Cougars

It was a mixed week of results for the Tomball Lady Cougars, as they defeated Dekaney in three games on Sept 23, but fell to nemesis Klein Oak in five games, on Sept. 27.

 

Sydney Ziober led the Lady Cougars to victory over Dekaney, recording nine kills on the 25-15, 25-16, 25-15 victory.

 

A grueling two hour match was up next for Tomball, as they fell to district opponent Klein Oak. The Lady Cougars lost 25-22, 14-25, 13-25, 25-20 and 11-15 to fall to 21-10 and 4-2 in district play.

 

Sarah Temperelli knocked down 24 kills for the game, while Roxanne McVey added 13. Ziober added 10 kills in the loss.

 

Magnolia West Lady Mustangs

The Magnolia West Lady Mustangs fell short, losing two matches to tough opponents over the final week of September.

 

The Lady Mustangs hosted Brenham in a district matchup on Sept. 23 and fell 14-25, 15-25, 25-22, 26-24 and 9-15. Samantha Sellers led Magnolia West with 13 kills and 15 digs, while Karli Nanny added 11 kills and 22 digs. Katelin Petrovich helped with 23 assists, 11 digs and 10 kills, while Ashley Louviere added 14 assists and 10 digs.

 

Magnolia West traveled to Stratford on Sept. 27 and fell short, losing 21-25, 21-25, 25-15 and 23-25. The loss dropped the Lady Mustangs to 14-16 overall and 3-3 in district play.

 

Kyla Ellis had 14 digs for the game, while Nanny added 23 digs and 18 kills. Sellars contributed 20 kills, while Petrovich added 28 assists.

 

Waller Lady Bulldogs

The Waller High School Lady Bulldog varsity volleyball team had two district wins on Sept. 20 against Northbrook (25-23, 25-8, 25-9) and on Sept. 23 against Spring Woods (25-9, 25-15, 25-11).   Junior Taylor Thomas led the varsity team with 16 kills, 18 digs, and seven service aces. Junior Billie Pringle led the team with 49 assists. Sam York was the Player of the Week. The Lady Bulldogs are 26-4 for the season and 4-1 in district play.

 

The junior varsity and sophomore teams joined forces to defeat Spring Woods (25-8, 25-10) and Northbrook (25-4, 25-16).  Cheyanne Carter was named junior varsity player of the week. Suzy Sosa was the sophomore team player of the week.
