| Area teams have impressive first week of district play |

Tomball Cougars 35 Spring Westfield 14
Forcing turnovers and a balanced offensive attack helped Tomball beat the undefeated Westfield Mustangs on Sept. 24, 35-14.
The win evened Tomball’s record at 2-2 and got them off to a good start in District 13-5A.
After Westfield fumbled the ball on their opening possession, Tomball quarterback Justin Dvorak was able to capitalize quickly, running for a 16-yard touchdown, giving the Cougars an early 7-0 lead.
The Mustangs promptly tied the game a few minutes later as they blocked a Tomball punt into the end zone and covered it for a touchdown.
The Cougars dominated from that point on.
Dvorak completed a 31-yard touchdown pass to Jameson Johnson in the opening minutes of the second quarter gave the lead back to Tomball. Dvorak then had his second rushing touchdown of the game with a minute-and-a-half to play to give the Cougars a 21-7 cushion.
Tomball forced Westfield into a quick three-and-out situation and soon hit pay dirt again. The snap to the Mustang punter never reached him and the Cougars will able to fall on the loose ball at the Westfield three-yard line. Dvorak then found Jameson again in the end zone to give Tomball a 28-7 halftime lead.
The Cougars Xavier Powell rounded out the scoring for Tomball with a 62-yard touchdown run in the final quarter, icing the 35-14 win for the Cougars.
Tomball gained 403 yards for the game, including 203 on the ground. Powell had 158 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown, while Dvorak was 21-30 for 195 yards and two touchdown through the air. Dvorak added 44 yards on the ground and two touchdowns while Johnson had 107 yards on nine catches with two touchdowns receiving.
The Cougars hosted Spring in their homecoming contest on Sept. 30. Results were not available as of press time.
Magnolia Bulldogs 57 Northbrook 7
The Magnolia Bulldogs came off their bye-week with a vengeance, rolling off 471 yards on the ground in pounding Northbrook 57-7.
Jordan Turnbow started the offensive onslaught on the Bulldogs first possession with a 70-yard touchdown run to put Magnolia ahead, 7-0. Three minutes later Cameron Salvaggio got in on the action with a three-yard run to put the Bulldogs up 14-0.
Chase Gragert completed the first quarter scoring with a 65-yard run from scrimmage, giving Magnolia a 21-0 lead.
The Bulldogs would match their first quarter output with 21 points, on a Greg Solomon 9-yard touchdown run, a 66-yard race downfield by Turnbow and a 21-yard touchdown from Gragert. The scoring blitz gave the Bulldogs a huge 42-0 halftime advantage. Solomon would add a matching 9-yard run in the second half, while Damion Edwards added a 55-yard touchdown to round out the scoring.
Magnolia did not even throw a pass the entire game, as their rushing game couldn’t be stopped. Gragert led all rushers with 152 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns, while Turnbow raced for 147 yards on just four carries, adding two touchdowns.
Edwards contributed 71 yards on six carries and a touchdown. Solomon added 48 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the night.
The Bulldogs rolled off 471 yards on the ground, while holding Northbrook to 208 total yards and just 68 yards rushing. The win improved Magnolia’s record to 2-2 on the year.
The Bulldogs hosted Spring Woods on Sept. 30. Results were not available as of press time.
Waller Bulldogs 49 Spring Woods 7
The Waller Bulldogs defeated the Spring Woods Tigers 49-7 on Sept. 23, at Waller ISD Stadium during Homecoming festivities.
"This was a great week for us,” Head Coach Jason Morley said. “Spring Woods really worried me coming into this game, but our kids performed at a high level and that was the difference."
Offensively, the Bulldogs racked up 396 yards. Rhett Loewe was nine of 16 passing with three touchdowns. Jyrin Broussard had six carries for 73 yards and two touchdowns. He also added four receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown. Desmin Bray had two catches for 54 yards and two touchdowns. Desmond Jordan had 14 carries for 106 yards. Israel Reyes and Shane West also added touchdowns for the Bulldogs.
Defensively, the Bulldogs held Spring Woods to 178 total yards and only seven first downs. Spring Woods had no passing yards.
The Bulldogs are 1-0 in district play and will travel to Brenham on Friday night to play the undefeated Brenham Cubs. Kickoff is at 7:30.
Concordia Lutheran 41 Lutheran North 0
The Concordia Lutheran Crusaders remained undefeated on the season, after crushing Lutheran North on Sept. 23, by a score of 41-0.
The Crusaders rolled off 22 second quarter points in taking a commanding halftime lead, cruising to 19 more second half points in the victory. They are now 5-0 for the year.
Eddie Brucceleri led Concordia with 129 yards rushing on six carries and three touchdowns, while Jake Bahr was 6-11 passing for 75 yards and a touchdown. Chance Gray contributed 67 yards rushing on seven carries, while catching 6 balls for 75 yards. Gray had a touchdown rushing and receiving.
Cullen Eubanks rounded out the Crusaders scoring with a rushing touchdown as well.
The state-ranked Crusaders hosted Northland Christian on Sept. 30 in a huge TAPPS Division II District 4 matchup. Northland came into the game also undefeated at 5-0. Results were not available as of press time.
Tomball Christian Warriors 69 Mount Carmel 32
Tomball Christian continues to surprise in the six-man football ranks, as they remained undefeated after a 69-32 trashing of Mount Carmel Academy on Sept. 23.
The Warriors rolled off 645 total yards on offense, led by Mitchell Byrum’s 268 yards passing and four touchdowns.
Tomball Christian raced out to a 43-20 halftime lead and never looked back. By the end of the third quarter the Warriors had increased their lead to 57-20.
Byrum was 11-20 passing for 268 yards, while David Hiley added 146 yards rushing on 23 carries. John Fosdick carried the ball 20 times for 117 yards, while Jake Carr added 61 yards on seven rushes.
Fosdick also had three catches for 121 yards, while Tim Shenk added 93 yards on five receptions.
Johnny Wilkins led the defense with nine tackles and a quarterback sack, while Fosdick Hunter Briton and Wilkins all had interceptions for the defense.
The Warriors played Houston Sanchez in a TCAL Division I, District 2 game on Sept. 30. Results were not available as of press time.
