Magnolia remains perfect in district volleyball play; Tomball fighting for first

tomball vb The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs finished the first half of district play undefeated, while Tomball, Magnolia West and Waller all continue their fight for a playoff spot.

 

Magnolia Lady Bulldogs

The Lady Bulldogs continued their winning streak by defeating both Spring Woods and Brenham in district play.

 

Magnolia hosted Spring Woods on Sept. 30 in District 17-4A play. The Lady Bulldogs won 25-10, 25-10, 25-2.

 

Madison Butler led the way for the Lady Bulldogs with seven kills, while Kerstin Cleveland added six and Kylie Randall had five. Morgan Miller put back 20 assists; Alyssa Fulgium had eight digs and Morgan Miller added an incredible 12 serving aces in the win.

 

Magnolia then hosted Brenham on Oct. 4 and won a touch match 19-25, 25-16, 26-24 and 25-11.

 

Kylie Randall led the way with 19 kills, while Miller added nine and Kaitlyn McShan had seven.

Allison Woods had 13 digs and Shayna Daniels added 12. Alyssa Fulgium led the way on assists with 18, while Chelsea Reynolds had four blocks for the game.

 

The wins give Magnolia a 24-12 record for the season, while helping them remain perfect in districts at 8-0.

 

Tomball Lady Cougars

The Tomball Lady Cougars rolled off their fourth straight win by beating Spring and Westfield, staying one game behind Klein Collins in District 13-5A.

 

The Lady Cougars traveled to Westfield on Sept. 30 and came out with a hard fought three game victory, 25-23, 29-27 and 25-11. Caitlin Diaz led Tomball with 18 kills.

 

The Lady Cougars won a crucial three game match against Spring on Oct. 4, as Sydney Ziober led Tomball with 10 kills.

 

Tomball’s record now stands at 26-9 and 7-1 in district play. The Lady Cougars have a crucial district matchup at Klein Collins on Oct. 14 which could determine the district champion.

 

Waller Lady Bulldogs

The Waller Lady bulldogs had a disappointing week, following to losses to District 17-41 foes Magnolia and Brenham.

 

Waller was defeated on  Sept. 27 by Magnolia (15-25, 14-25, 21-25) and on Sept. 30 by Brenham (25-22, 25-16, 24-26, 22-25, 9-15). Junior Taylor Thomas led the varsity team for the week with 22 kills and four service aces. Junior Morgan Heise led the team with 34 digs.  Senior Kamryn Dimas led the team with 46 assists. Dimas was the player of the week.

 

The Lady Bulldogs are 26-6 for the season and 4-3 in district play.

 

Magnolia West Lady Mustangs

Magnolia West split district games against Spring Woods and Montgomery to remain even in district play for the season.

 

The Lady Mustangs traveled to Montgomery on Sept. 30 and lost a heartbreaker after leading two games to none. Magnolia West lost 30-28, 25-19, 17-25, 22-25 and 11-15.

 

Magnolia West was paced by Karli Nanny’s 31 kills, 27 digs and one block, while Katelin Petrovich added 38 assists, 18 digs, six kills and four aces. Kyla Ellis put back 32 digs, while Samantha Sellars contributed 20 kills, 21 digs and two blocks in the loss.

 

The Lady Mustangs then hosted Spring Woods on Sept. 30 and won decisively, 25-8, 25-11 and 25-16.

 

Alyssa Smith had five kills, while Ellis added seven aces, four kills and eight digs. Ashley Louviere had nine assists and two aces, while Petrovich added seven aces and 15 assists.

 

Magnolia West stands at 15-17 overall and 4-4 in district play.
