Competition getting tougher for volleyball teams

It was a difficult week for many area volleyball teams as the district season heads into its final weeks.

 

Waller Lady Bulldogs

The Waller Lady Bulldog varsity volleyball team defeated Stratford (25-16, 23-25, 16-25, 25-19, 15-8) on Oct. 4 and lost to Montgomery (25-18, 18-25, 21-25, 10-25) on Oct. 7.

 

Junior Taylor Thomas led the varsity team with 27 kills. Junior Morgan Heise led the team with 21 digs. Senior Kamryn Dimas led the team with 76 assists and added 19 digs. Taylor Thomas was the Player of the Week.

 

The Lady Bulldogs are 27-7 for the season and 5-4 in district play.

 

Magnolia Lady Bulldogs

The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs suffered their first defeat in district play, falling to Stratford 20-25, 24-26 and 23-25.

 

Kylie Randall led the Lady Bulldogs with 15 kills, while Madison Butler added nine.

 

Magnolia hosted Brenham on Oct. 11. Brenham got the better of the Lady Bulldogs as Magnolia fell 16-25, 25-18, 25-15, 24-26 and 9-15.

 

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 23-13 on the season and 8-2 in district play.

 

 

Magnolia West Lady Mustangs

Another win pushed the Magnolia West Lady Mustangs to a winning record in districts, as they defeated Northbrook (25-10, 25-10, 25-11) on Oct. 7.

 

Samantha Sellars led the Lady Mustangs with 11 kills, while Ashley Louviere added 16 assists. Katelin Petrovich contributed 15 assists, eight kills and six digs, while Karli Nanny chipped in seven kills, three aces and 15 digs.

 

Magnolia West then hosted Spring Woods in another district matchup Oct. 11. The Lady Mustangs fell 18-25, 18-25 and 21-25 to fall to 16-18 overall and 5-5 in district play.

 

Nanny registered 12 kills and 14 digs in the loss, while Petrovich contributed 22 assists and 13 digs.

 

Tomball Lady Cougars

The Lady Cougars beat Klein Forest in three games (25-17, 25-11, 25-23) on Oct. 7.

 

Sydney Ziober led Tomball with 15 kills on the night.

 

The Lady Cougars traveled to Klein on Oct. 11, in another district matchup. Tomball won in four games (25-15, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21) to improve to 28-9 on the season and 9-1 in district play.

 

Ziober was again the kills leader for the Lady Cougars with 20.
