| Tomball’s Concordia Lutheran, Christian Home School continue to roll |
|
Tomball’s two remaining perfect teams stayed that way, albeit in completely different fashion. Concordia Lutheran rolled to an easy victory while Tomball Christian pulled of a win in the game’s fading moments.
#1 Concordia Lutheran Crusaders 48 Katy Pope John XXIII 6
One week after being named the Built Ford Tough Texas Player of the Week, quarterback Nathan Potter was content in watching his running backs do the majority of the work in a 48-6 win over Pope John XXIII.
Chance Gray had 126 yards rushing and four touchdowns, as the Crusaders improved to 8-0 and 4-0 in district play.
Concordia rolled off 41 straight points before their opponents ever found the end zone, starting with a 20-yard touchdown run and ending with a 69-yard touchdown run, both by Gray. In between, Gray had a couple of short touchdown runs, while Eddie Brucculeri added 121 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
The Crusader defense got in on the fun, as Dylan Cress added a 31-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Potter only had to pass when needed and was 4-9 for 130 yards. Overall Concordia was able to rack up 425 total yards, while holding Pope John XXIII to just 133 for the game.
The Crusaders traveled to Ft. Bend Christian on Oct. 21. Results were not available as of press time.
#2 Tomball Christian Home School 28 San Marcos Christian 24
The Tomball Christian Warriors remained undefeated after a 28-24 comeback victory over the defending TCAL Division II State Champions San Marcos Christian.
Mitchell Byrum found David Fosdick on an out pattern on fourth-and-goal, for the go-ahead score with two minutes to play.
San Marcos then drove to Tomball Christian’s four-yard line, where the Warrior defense stiffened and held, giving Tomball Christian the win, allowing them to stay perfect at 8-0 for the season.
Byrum was 8-12 passing for 106 yards and two touchdowns, while John Fosdick added 129 yards on 26 carries and two touchdowns. David Fosdick contributed 75 yards on five catches and two touchdowns. David Hilley ran for 87 yards on 23 carries. The Warriors hosted West Columbia Charter on Oct. 21. Results were not available as of press time.
Waller Bulldogs 47 Northbrook 0
The Waller Bulldogs got back into the victory column after routing Northbrook 47-0 on Oct. 14.
“These games are tough to get your motor running for,” Coach Jason Morley said. “Watching the video, we knew this was a game we should win. All week, our focus was on taking care of business and putting them away early. We still had some miscues that we need to get fixed, but overall, I’d say we took care of business.”
Offensively, the Bulldogs racked up 451 yards. Elijah Morrow stepped in for the injured Desmond Jordan and had 12 carries for 123 yards and three touchdowns.
“I cannot speak highly enough about Elijah’s performance,” Coach Morley said. “He got off to a rocky start and took a big lick on his first carry. I was worried about how he would bounce back, but he rebounded just like I hoped he would.”
Rhett Loewe was 14 of 20 for 270 yards and two touchdowns. Jyrin Broussard had four catches for 86 yards and a touchdown. DJ Johnson had four catches for 66 yards and a touchdown. Desmin Bray had three catches for 91 yards.
Defensively, the Bulldogs put up a dominant performance. The Bulldogs held the Raiders to 66 total yards, and the Raiders were held to negative 30 yards in the second half.
The Bulldogs are now 2-2 in district play and tied for third place.
Tomball Cougars 39 Spring DeKaney 41
Tomball’s football season has been full of shootouts and heartbreakers, but none probably stung more than a 41-39 loss to DeKaney on Oct. 14.
After falling behind early 35-20, the Cougars roared to life in the third quarter to take a 39-35 lead, before DeKaney scored with just over eight minutes remaining to regain the lead.
The Cougars looked as though they may comeback for the win as they converted on two fourth down attempts on their final drive. Their luck ran out however, as quarterback Justin Dvorak could not connect on a pass to Jameson Johnson on fourth-and-16 from the DeKaney 33-yard line.
Justin Dvorak was 34-54 passing for 380 yards and two touchdowns, while also running for 75 yards and a score. Jameson Johnson had another big game for the Cougars, catching 11 balls for 137 yards and a touchdown. Running back Xavier Powell added 51 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns, while also catching six passes for 33 yards.
The loss dropped Tomball to 2-5 on the season and 1-3 in district play.
The Cougars traveled to Klein Oak on Oct. 20, where they lost 45-21.
