| Waller rolls over Magnolia, stays in playoff hunt |
|
"This was a tough game, even though the scoreboard seems to indicate differently,” Waller head coach Jason Morley said. “They had been rotating in three quarterbacks and had played three different defenses in the games we saw on video. Our kids did a great job of adjusting.”
Waller started off the scoring on a one-yard touchdown run by Desmond Jordan early in the first quarter.
Quarterback Rhett Loewe then found Jyrin Broussard for a 39-yard touchdown pass to give Waller a 14-0 lead, heading into the second quarter.

Loewe then found D.J. Johnson on a short pattern for a two-yard score, giving Waller a commanding 21-0 lead, before Magnolia got on the board.
Chance David scored from four yards out to cut the Waller lead to 21-7 at halftime.
Jordan answered the halftime call, scoring from 16 yards out to open the second half of play. Denny Garcia kicked the extra point, giving Waller a 28-7 lead before Magnolia answered again.
David scored his second touchdown of the night, cutting the lead to 28-14, with just over four minutes to play in the third.
Waller would close the door on any rally attempt, however, as Zach Hendrix recovered a Magnolia fumble 29 yards for a touchdown. Elijah Morrow closed out the scoring with a 62-yard touchdown run.
Offensively, Waller rolled up 391 yards of offense. Jordan had 17 carries for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Elijah Morrow had seven carries for 83 yards and a touchdown. Broussard had seven carries for 79 yards.
Loewe was 11 of 19 for 106 yards passing and two touchdowns. Desmin Bray had three catches for 24 yards. Johnson had 6 catches for 32 yards and a touchdown.
"Offensively, I thought we played well.” Morley said. “We missed some things that we need to be able to take advantage of, but we can get that fixed.”
Magnolia rolled up 289 yards on the ground, but three turnovers killed any chance that Magnolia had to stay in the game. Chase Gragert had 146 yards rushing on 22 carries, while David added 77 yards on 15 rushes and two touchdowns.
"Magnolia's offense is tough to defend because if you get out of position or don't do your job, they hurt you badly,” Morley said. “We had a couple of slip ups and they made us pay, but overall we did a heck of a job.”
Waller traveled to Tully Stadium on Oct. 28 to take on Stratford, while Magnolia hosted state-ranked Brenham. Results were not available as of press time.
