Magnolia, Tomball capture share of district titles

Magnolia volleyball has captured its second straight 17-4A title, sharing it with Brenham, after finishing 11-3 in district play; while Tomball captured a share of the 13-5A title with Klein Collins. Waller’s Lady Bulldogs and the new Tomball Memorial Lady Wildcats also secured playoff spots.

Magnolia Lady Bulldogs

Magnolia lost a chance to win an outright district title after falling to Waller 20-25, 15-25, 25-18 and 20-25 on Oct. 21.  Kylie Randall led the Lady Bulldogs with 18 kills.

The Lady Bulldogs bounced back to ensure a first-place tie with Brenham by defeating Spring Woods 25-7, 25-18 and 25-7. Magnolia earned a number one seed in bi-district play, by virtue of its season sweep of Brenham.

“Having lost five starters from last year’s team they have really achieved a lot,” Magnolia head coach Terri Johnson said.

The Lady Bulldogs will play Huntsville in a bi-district matchup on Nov. 1. The match starts at 7 p.m. at Willis High School.

Tomball Lady Cougars

The Tomball Lady Cougars finished in a tie for first place in district 13-5A with Klein Collins. Both teams defeated each other on their home courts this season. That result led to a tiebreaker game on Oct. 28 in Tomball, to determine playoff seeds, however, results were not available as of press time.

The road the Lady Cougars took to the playoffs went through Klein Oak (25-20, 25-21, 25-18) and Spring Westfield (25-18, 25-13, 25-22), as Tomball defeated both squads handily. The victories improved the Lady Cougars record to 30-9 overall and 13-1 in district play.

“These girls have played their hearts out,” Tomball head coach Cheri Wallace said. “We’re not ready for the season to end just yet.”

Waller Lady Bulldogs

The Waller High School Lady Bulldogs secured a playoff position in district 17-4A by defeating Spring Woods (25-3, 25-8, and 25-18) on Oct. 18 and Magnolia (25-20, 25-15, 18-25, 25-20) on Oct. 21. Waller finished district play in fourth place after falling to Brenham (25-16, 20-25, 14-25, and 29-31) on Oct. 25.
