Tough week for many area teams

Tomball Cougars  26

Klein                      34

 

It was yet another heartbreaking defeat for the Tomball Cougars, as they fell 34-26 to Klein on Oct. 29.

 

The Cougars had a chance to tie it in the final seconds of the game, but couldn’t get the last 10 yards needed for a tying touchdown.

 

Senior quarterback Justin Dvorak was 17-34 passing for 300 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also ran for 68 yards on 17 carries.

Running back Xavier Powell added 54 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns, while receiver Jameson Johnson had 148 yards on eight catches and a score.

 

The Cougars closed out a frustrating 2011 season with a home game against Klein Forest Nov. 4. Results were not available as of press time.

 

Concordia Lutheran Crusaders  48

Westbury Christian                      31

 

They have no flash. They have no dash. They have no losses.

 

Concordia Lutheran has lived by its running game all year, all the way to a perfect season so far, after beating Westbury Christian 48-31 on Oct. 28.

 

Concordia Lutheran dominated the final quarter 20-0 to take the come-from-behind win.

 

Quarterback Nathan Potter was 5-6 passing for 43 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 22 yards as well.

 

Chance Gray had 180 yards on the ground and three scores, while Eddie Brucculeri added 107 yards on 12 carries. Josh Amelunke contributed 72 yards on seven rushes and had one rushing touchdown and one receiving.

 

The Crusaders took on Second Baptist Nov. 4. Results were not available as of press time.

 

Magnolia West Mustangs  42

Spring Woods                       7

 

The Mustangs came back from a disappointing loss to Stratford in convincing fashion, winning 42-7 over Spring Woods Oct. 28.

 

The Mustangs now control their own playoff destiny, as they only have to defeat Waller to secure a spot in the playoffs.

 

Senior running back Desmond Richards had a monster game, rushing for 242 yards on just 14 carries. Quarterback Tyler Anderson was nearly perfect, going 12-13 passing for 153 yards and two scores. Tyler Resendez caught three passes for 52 yards, while Tykoya Neal also caught three, for 40 yards and a score.

 

The Mustangs played Waller Nov. 7, for a playoff spot. Results were not available as of press time.

 

Waller Bulldogs  20

Stratford             35

 

The Waller Bulldogs came up short against Stratford 35-20 Oct 28. 

 

“Obviously our entire group is disappointed,” coach Jason Morley said. “We felt like this was a game we could win.  We had them on the ropes early and just let them off the hook.  We didn’t play as consistently as we needed to in order to get a win tonight.”

 

Offensively, the Bulldogs gained 276 yards and racked up 19 first downs.  Desmond Jordan had 29 carries for 134 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Rhett Loewe was 11 of 21 passing for 125 yards and two touchdowns.  D.J. Johnson had seven catches for 95 yards and a touchdown

 

The Bulldogs played Magnolia West at Waller ISD Stadium Nov. 4. Results were not available as of press time.

 

Tomball Christian Warriors  26

Baytown Christian                  40

 

Turnovers doomed a chance at a perfect regular season for the Tomball Christian Home School Warriors, as they lost to Baytown Christian 40-26 Oct. 28.

 

Mitchell Byrum was 8-16 passing for 107 yards and a score, but also threw two interceptions.

 

David Hiley led an effective rushing attack with 96 yards on 20 carries, but the team fumbled six times, losing five.

 

The Warriors get a chance for revenge in the TCAL Six-Man playoffs Nov. 12, as they play Baytown again, at Baytown. Kickoff time has yet to be announced.
