Concordia Lutheran wins a wild playoff contest

concordia fb After jumping out to a huge lead, Concordia Lutheran staved off a ferocious comeback from Dallas Christian to win 41-28 Nov. 19. The win pushed the Crusaders into the TAPPS state semifinals.

 

Led by two touchdowns each from Eddie Brucculeri and Chance Gray, the Crusaders jumped out to a 28-0 lead late in the second quarter.

 

Then the fireworks began.

 

With about two-and-a-half minutes to play in the first half, Dallas Christian scored on a 60-yard touchdown bomb to finally get on the board.

 

The Crusaders answered with a 10-yard touchdown from Jacob Bahr with 58 seconds remaining, but Dallas Christian wasn’t finished. A 22-yard touchdown pass cut the Concordia Lutheran lead to a still commanding 35-12 advantage, heading into halftime, but the seeds had been sewn.

 

Dallas Christian commanded the third quarter, scoring two touchdowns and converting both two-point conversions to make a game of it, at 35-28.

 

The Crusaders were able to ice the game midway through the final period, as Bahr caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nathan Potter to take a 41-28 lead.

 

Gray led all rushers with 177 yards on 20 carries, while Brucculeri added 61 yards on 18 carries. Potter was 6-9 passing for 139 yards, 88 of them going to Cody Huffmeister.

 

The Crusaders improved to 13-0 for the season and faced San Antonio Christian Nov. 26, in the state semifinals. Results were not available as of press time.
