Concordia Lutheran advances to state title game

concordia football The Concordia Lutheran Crusaders kept rolling through the TAPPS playoffs, crushing San Antonio Christian 41-7 Nov. 26 to advance to the state championship game.

Chance Gray got the Crusaders off to a fast start, rushing for a 77-yard touchdown less than a minute into the game.

It was a slower pace for the rest of the first quarter as neither team found the end zone the rest of the period. The Crusaders would be far from finished, however.

Mark Schroeder started off the second quarter with a 19-yard touchdown run to put the Crusaders up 14-0. Less than four minutes later quarterback Nathan Potter found Austin English on a nine-yard pass, for a 20-0 lead.

Gray wrapped up the explosive second quarter with a 14-yard touchdown run to give the Crusaders a commanding 27-0 halftime lead.

Jacob Bahr added to Concordia’s lead midway through the third quarter, running it in from 25 yards out, giving the Crusaders a 34-0 lead.

San Antonio Christian was finally able to break through Concordia’s defensive unit for its first score, three minutes into the final quarter. Eddie Brucculeri answered for Concordia four minutes later, plowing in from one-yard out, for the final 41-7 score.

Gray was the Crusader workhorse all night, rushing for 237 yards on 19 carries and two scores.
