Magnolia keeps on track as girls basketball heats up

mwhs girls bb The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs stayed undefeated in district play, after two recent victories.

 

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Spring Woods Jan. 20 and ran to a 27-9 first period lead. While the pace slowed down following the opening run, the lead kept growing, as the Lady Bulldogs took a 55-17 win.

 

Caitlin Lawrence led Magnolia with 14 points in the game, while Allison Abendschein contributed 10 points.

The Lady Bulldogs hit the road for their next contest, facing Houston Stratford.

 

Stratford jumped out to an early 13-8 lead, however Magnolia raced back to take a 26-20 halftime lead.

 

Stratford wasn’t going away quietly though, as they roared out of the locker room to take a 35-31 lead at the end of the third period.

 

The back-and-forth contest again swayed to Magnolia, as they outscored Stratford 19-8 in the final period to take a 50-43 victory.

 

Ambra Davis led three Lady Bulldogs in double figures with 13 points, while Shaquania Fuselier and Abendshein both added 10.

 

The win pushed Magnolia’s record to 20-7 on the season and 9-0 in district play.

 

Magnolia West Lady Mustangs

The Magnolia West Lady Mustangs were able to get back on the winning track, following a tough loss to Montgomery Jan. 20

 

Against Montgomery, Magnolia West fell behind 27-6 early and wasn’t able to catch up, in a 65-48 loss.

 

Michelle DeLeon led the Lady Mustangs with 20 points, while Mary Baer added 17 in the loss.

 

Next up, Magnolia West traveled to Houston Northbrook Jan. 24.

 

It was a defensive battle, as both teams struggled to make shots before the Lady Mustangs closed out the game on an 11-0 run to take the 39-21 victory.

 

The win pushed the Lady Mustangs to 6-12 on the season and 3-6 in district play.

 

Tomball Lady Cougars

The Tomball Lady Cougars were able to pick up two key district wins recently.

 

The Lady Cougars first traveled to Spring Westfield Jan. 20 to take on the Lady Mustangs.

 

Both teams battled it out defensively in the first half, scatching their way to an 18-all tie at halftime.

 

Tomball raced out of the locker room ready to go and were all over Westfield, grabbing a 35-21 lead after three periods of play.

 

The Lady Cougars were never seriously challenged the rest of the way in cruising to a 46-32 win.

 

Carissa Diaz scored 18 points for Tomball and Caitlin Diaz added 10.

 

The Lady Cougars then traveled to Spring High School Jan. 24, to take on the Lady Lions.

 

Tomball again struggled in the first half and went into halftime trailing 25-22, before roaring back in the second half.

 

The Lady Cougars outscored Spring 17-2 in the third period pushing them to a 52-34 win.

 

Caitlin Diaz had 27 points in the victory.

 

The win pushed Tomball’s record to 18-10 for the year and 6-4 in district play.

 

Waller Lady Bulldogs

The Waller Lady Bulldogs were able to split a pair of district games recently in their quest for a playoff spot.

 

The Lady Bulldogs hosted Brenham Jan. 20 and raced to a 30-16 halftime lead, before holding on for a 57-47 victory.

 

Brittany Houle scored 20 for Waller, while Jessica Coleman added 12 in the win.

 

Next up Waller traveled to Montgomery to take on perennial district title contender Montgomery.

 

The Lady Bulldogs fell behind early and weren’t able to cut into the deficit during the final periods, as they fell 67-53.

 

Lydia Brooks led Waller with 13 points, while Houle added 11.

 

The loss dropped Waller to 14-13 on the season and 4-5 in district play.
