| Lady Bulldog softball rolls through first three rounds of playoffs |
|
The Magnolia Lady Bulldogs were in prime position last week to make a serious run at a softball state tournament berth. With a May 23 match-up against Waltrip in the Regional Semifinals of the Class 4A playoffs, the Lady Bulldogs needed just two victories to make a trip to Austin.
Results of the game were unavailable at press time last week. The winner between Magnolia and Waltrip will move on to face either Angleton or Nederland in the Region 3 final for the right to play as one of the final four in Austin.
Rene Bialas’ team has knocked off San Marcos, Barbers Hill and Elgin to make it through the first three rounds of the playoffs.
Meanwhile, after getting past Conroe in the opening round of the Class 5A softball playoffs, the Tomball Lady Cougars softball team fell victim to Vista Ridge in the second round of Region 2 action.
In the first game of the best-of-three series at Bryan High School, Vista Ridge knocked off the Lady Cougars 7-5. But the Lady Cougars rallied for a Game Two, 2-1 victory to even the series.
In a hard-fought pitching duel, Vista Ridge ended Tomball’s season with a 1-0 Game Three victory, earning a spot in the third round, where they knocked off The Woodlands.
The Lady Cougars’ finished their season as runners-up in 13-5A with a 23-5 overall record.
