| Summer camps provide off-season training opportunities for athletes |
|
Though all the champions have been decided, and all high school sports have wrapped up their seasons, an athlete’s work is never done. The summer off-season has just begun, and local athletes will have plenty of opportunities to rehabilitate, train, and hone their skills in one of the many camps and summer programs available in the area.
There are several different venues offering programs to help local athletes take their game to the next level this summer. The Texas Sports Medicine Center’s “Sports Advantage” program includes summer strength and conditioning, Baseball Performance, Soccer Speed and Skills Camp, and Challenge Soccer Skills and Strength Camp.
The goal of these programs is to help athletes not only increase their ability, but to perform at their peak by focusing on speed, strength, power, flexibility and balance. The registration deadline for Sports Advantage Summer Camps is June 9. More information on registration, session times and camp fees can be found at www.tsmc.org.
Area high schools are also opening their doors to athletes this summer. Tomball High School is holding it’s annual Speed and Strength Camp from June 8 to the 16. Morning sessions begin at 8 a.m. and evening sessions at 6 p.m. Registration is open, and all incoming ninth through 12th graders are welcome. The cost for the program is $75, or $150 for the six-week program.

The Magnolia Bulldogs’ 2009 Speed and Power Camps will also begin on June 8 and finish on the 23rd. The camp will focus on improving speed, agility, strength and power for participants of all sports. Coaches Jim Scott, Charlie Weathers and Mike Calais will be training athletes Monday through Thursday from 8 to 10 a.m. or 4 to 6 p.m. The price is $100, and all athletes must have a physical completed before participating.
